B.P.R.D. - 02/14/2010
We start with an early-80s Steve Reich piece for flutist Ransom Wilson (Reich had originally turned Wilson down, saying he couldn’t adapt his style for a solo instrument), then hear Hindemith’s 1958 Octet and close with a spare, fascinating string quartet by modern composer David Epstein. Interspersed are short pieces from a 2-CD collection of the complete chamber works of the often-overlooked French composer Jacques Ibert, mostly so I can have time to switch records around without making you wait through silence. Hope you enjoy.
