Death Valley Radio Program 868

Death Valley Radio is a format-free program for the musically curious.

In this age of bland radio programming (both commercial and non-) and automated music services, DVR is still built by hand, non-algorithmically — one set at a time.

Death Valley Radio can be heard here at taintradio on Saturdays at 10:00 PM ET and Wednesdays at 10:00 AM ET.

Death Valley Radio program 868 features a piece from the CD companion to Documerica, ETHEL’s new multi-media project inspired by a massive photo archive created by the US EPA in 1971; Bryan Murray, whose tribute to Merle Haggard just wouldn’t be the same without guitarist Eugene Chadbourne and saxophonist Jon Irabagon; and Sound Prints, a quintet led by Joe Lovano and Dave Douglas.

Also: pianist Chick Corea and banjoist Béla Fleck performing “a stressful little number” live in concert; composer Michael Vincent Waller sounding very much like Erik Satie; and trumpeter Pete Rodríguez saluting his father, a singer and percussionist best known for his work with the Fania All-Stars.

Each week’s playlist will be archived until the end of time at deathvalleyradio.org.
