Death Valley Radio Program 880

Death Valley Radio is a format-free program for the musically curious.

In this age of bland radio programming (both commercial and non-) and automated music services, DVR is still built by hand, non-algorithmically — one set at a time.

Death Valley Radio can be heard here at taintradio on Saturdays at 10:00 PM ET and Wednesdays at 10:00 AM ET.

DVR program 880 features Charles Lloyd and Willie Nelson’s new rendition of Ed McCurdy’s “Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream”; blues mandolins and songs about trains (James Cotton with Joe Louis Walker, Luther Dickinson & the Cooperators, the South Memphis String Band, John Hiatt, John Mellencamp, Robert Plant with Buddy Miller, Captain Beefheart); and some old-school, non-Brooklyn hipster jazz (Little Willie John, Gloria Lynne, John Williams, Angelo Badalamenti, Ennio Morricone).

Also: new music from trumpeters Avishai Cohen and Ralph Alessi, and Ensemble Kolossus, an 18-piece big band led by bassist Michael Formanek.

Each week’s playlist will be archived until the end of time at deathvalleyradio.org.
