Oh man that Rufus Harley bagpipe soul stuff is good. Not as convinced about the Pierre Henry/Spooky Tooth black mass thing, but hope you found it as much interesting as annoying. Enjoy.

That Billy Joe Shaver gospel country CD from 2007 and the Steve Jordan accordion stuff are the outstanding gems this week, in my world. Hope you liked that strange Terry Allen suite from 1985 as well; originally composed to accompany a dance performance, it holds up well as an odd story/song/collage piece, I think.

You know, sometimes when you’re doing radio you get this warm, full feeling of the music flowing and filling you as you select and channel it, sweeping your hands into the river of sound to speed it along and knowing - just fucking *knowing* - that you’re doing good in the world when you usually just muddle along, muttering to yourself about how awful everything is.

I don’t know if you’ll feel it like I did, but this show was definitely one of those times. Thanks for listening, and thanks to taintradio for giving me the chance to feel that again.

The usual all-over-the-map stuff, hopefully with enough you’ve never heard before to make it worthwhile. That spoken word Eddie Harris, though; I don’t know what to say about it except it’s an undeniably fascinating foul-mouthed record - mostly fascinating for raising the question, “How the fuck did this ever get released?”
