So happy to hear that entire “The Only Tune” piece by Nico Muhly; it reveals more every time I listen. I was even more all over the map than usual this week, but dammit I think it works. Hope you enjoy.

Really loving that early 70s Beach Boys stuff right now; “Carl & the Passions” is a great, great pop/rock/gospel/fuckedup record. I tried to dig out some unknown gems from knowns and unknowns for you; here’s hoping you get to groove away as much as I did.

Big Lothar & the Hand People fan right now. Fair warning. Love that McKinley Jackson & the Politicans record, too - they were a great underrated house band for the Invictus/Hot Wax labels in the early 70s - and Can’t Help Lovin’ That Man, a strange comp of 1920s/30s men-singing-to-men and other gender-bending songs. Enjoy.

Hope you like the psychedelic stuff in between all the soul and country. Thanks for listening, as always. Oh, and I forgot to include the brilliant cover of “When Will I Be Loved” featuring Sandy Denny and Linda Peters (later Thompson) from “Rock On,” the great 1972 covers collection by a bunch of Britfolk stars simply calling themselves The Bunch.

The Cymande, late 70s Van, Andrew Hill, Atomic Rooster and early UB40 are particularly rocking my worldview these days. A gorgeous 13 minutes of spare, groovy Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan ends the set, with a great unknown Floaters cut as the palate cleanser. Hope you enjoy.
