Surplus Value / The History of the Microphone – 07/22/2014

playlist for Surplus Value / The history of the mic show 015

“What do children do in this world that belongs to them?” – we get to listen to some of this beautiful, intoxicatingly musical film by Fredericq Bianchet called Da Voiz (Playground Style) and we get to try to figure out why the cadences and rhythms of children playing is relentlessly, beautifully musical. Then the kids beat Capitalism through song! Yay! But it’s the only time in this life, as we know, that the kids, or music, wins. sigh…….

At one point I snarl about tear gas in Paris, and what Paris lacks: the missing Hans Haacke installation at the Cour D’Honneur of the Palais Bourbon.

So there.

Session one this week see’s the return of old HoM friends and two new visitors to the Snake Pit. Eve Selis & Marc Twang return along with the California duo Jeff Berkely & Calman Hart. The new four piece close harmony group call themselves BHST and they are currently touring here in the UK.
Session two is a collection of roots / rocking California ladies who are also on a long UK tour. Rainbow Girls as a band grew out of a weekly jamming party a few years ago and their debut record ‘ The Sound Of Light ‘ is the outcome. They play a bunch of new songs in this session.
