B.P.R.D. – 05/03/2009

This week’s show features some new-ish classical pieces and a few oddities. As usual, Alex Ross has a relevant – and wonderful – New Yorker piece, this time about Thomas Adès (with hilarious details about the genesis of the infamous blow job scene in his opera “Powder Her Face”). Here are a couple of brief descriptions of Malcolm Arnold’s Three Shanties for Wind Quintet, and lots of juicy detail in his Times obit. Here’s Morris Rosenzweig’s site, and a nice description of Paul Lansky’s 1984 computer soundscape “Guy’s Harp.”
